From Endarlatsa to Behobia
Something different, ideal for groups
The Bidasoa river rises in the heart of the Baztan valley and, on its way to the Bay of Biscay, forms the natural border between France and Spain. In its final stretch, before reaching the Plaiaundi Natural Park in the bay of Txingudi, the river carries enough water to be paddled by kayak.
We'll show you a pleasant, fun trip that can be done between May and October with Kayak Basque Country, a company based in Hondarribia. A different kind of plan, best done in a group, that takes you into one of the most beautiful parts of our region in a whole new way.

The river
The Bidasoa rises in Navarre under the name Baztan and, on entering Gipuzkoa, becomes the Bidasoa. It flows into the bay of Txingudi, between Hondarribia and Hendaye. For some it's the natural border between Spain and France; for others, the river dividing the Basque territories of Gipuzkoa and Lapurdi. A river steeped in history thanks to its geographical position.
The trip starts at Endarlatsa and, after 7.5 km on the water, ends in the village of Behobia.
Who to do it with
It's a straightforward descent that doesn't require much experience, but the river does have some risks if you don't know how to handle a kayak. So if you don't have enough experience, we recommend doing the descent with Kayak Basque Country, one of the few companies that runs it with clients and whose team includes expert kayakers who have even competed internationally.
