Route

The route section by section

0:00 h

Larraitz car park

We start at the Larraitz car park. From here we begin the ascent by crossing the barrier that keeps cars out: this point marks the start of the day.

0:15 h

Signpost to Txindoki

After 15 minutes we find a sign pointing the way to the mountain. We head left up steps made of logs, opting for a more direct climb that crosses the track several times.

0:35 h

Path along the west ridge

The track becomes a path that follows Txindoki's magnificent west ridge. We cross a barrier while enjoying the panoramic views.

0:55 h

Spring and zigzags

We pass a spring and continue to the right. The climb continues in zigzags, making for a gradual but exciting ascent.

1:15 h

Spring before the sheepfold

We reach a spring just before a sheepfold. The path turns left at a kind of col, marking a change of direction.

1:32 h

Egurral col

We reach the Egurral col after negotiating some rocks and passing above a txabola (shepherd's hut). From here, only the final steep pull of the climb remains.

2:10 h

Txindoki summit (1,245 m)

We reach the summit after roughly 2 hours and 10 minutes. We take in the spectacular panoramic views from 1,245 metres up: a well-deserved reward for the effort.

Getting there

By bus: Lurraldebus B08 from San Sebastián to Tolosa (38 min, hourly), then To01 or To41G from Tolosa to Larraitz (27 min, every 2 hours).

By car from San Sebastián: take the N-1 towards Vitoria, leave at exit 422 (Ordizia) and follow the GI-2132 through Zaldibia to Larraitz, where there is a car park.

  • Mountain footwear and warm clothing: it's usually windy at the summit
  • Water and food: there are no springs on the final section
  • Check the weather forecast before setting off
